Rumi II

*This is from a post I did last year.*

I heard coyotes howling at the moon.  I turned to look out at the view.  They stood there five or six of them converging in the darkness.  I would have asked them to stop only I was not bothered, not bothered at all.  I saw that it was 2:13 in the morning.  My wake up time. “There is a message in the clouds  Do not fall back asleep.”  I am misquoting Rumi, but you get the gist. I stayed awake a few more hours listening to my howling companions.  I couldn’t really see them as the light began to creep over the horizon.  I would think that I had only imagined them if only they hadn’t left footprints in the sand.

Rumi:

Inside you there’s an artist you don’t know about. He’s not interested in how things look different in moonlight.

Let the beauty we love be what we do.

I died a mineral, and became a plant. I died a plant and rose an animal. I died an animal and I was man. Why should I fear? When was I less by dying?

The Eternal looked upon me for a moment with His eye of power, and annihilated me in His being, and become manifest to me in His essence. I saw I existed through Him.

Everyone sees the unseen in proportion to the clarity of his heart, and that depends upon how much he has polished it. Whoever has polished it more sees more — more unseen forms become manifest to him.

Let the lover be disgraceful, crazy, absent-minded. Someone sober will worry about events going badly. Let the lover be.

Only from the heart Can you touch the sky.
